Nobody wants to make that call to euthanize a pet. However, in certain cases, it's the best option, so your pet doesn't have to suffer. At VetCalls, serving Santa Maria, CA, Arroyo Grande, CA, San Luis Obispo, CA, and Nipomo, CA, we understand how difficult this decision is for pet parents. That's why we make it as easy as possible for everyone involved by offering in-home pet euthanasia. We help your pet stay comfortable in their own home and allow you the convenience of no travel time or hassle.
What Happens During In-Home Pet Euthanasia
Our veterinarian will come to your home via our mobile vet service. We come with the necessary medication and tools for this procedure. We commonly use a barbiturate or benzodiazepine tranquilizer mix given at a high dosage to render your pet unconscious and rapidly shut down their major organ functions. While this sounds extreme, the process is quick because our vet administers the drug or combination of drugs intravenously. Therefore, the solution quickly travels through the body.
Before we perform the procedure, our vet will give you time with your pet to say your final farewells. We understand this is a difficult time and are available to answer any of your questions before performing the procedure. We'll help you decide on the best location and give you the option to hold your pet's paw. On the other hand, if you prefer not to be present, we understand and feel you should do what's best. In this case, you should feel free to leave the room.
Finally, depending on the medication(s) given, we'll provide the injection or injections, and your pet will quickly and painlessly pass away.
As both an emergency vet and a euthanasia vet, we'd like you to know that letting your pet suffer takes quite a toll on the end of his or her life. The process that your pet goes through as they pass is quite extensive and can be painful and unpleasant. Euthanasia helps to prevent much of that pain and suffering.
At VetCalls, we know being at home is the most comfortable place in the world for your vet. That's why our vet offers this service as part of our in-home pet care. We can also help you make the call if you're unsure if euthanasia is the right call at this point.
